After a rough last rehab start, Jacob deGrom will make his long-awaited Mets comeback.

Barring a physical setback in the next several days, Jacob deGrom's next stop will be a comeback in the Mets rotation.

Although the Mets' ace took a beating in a minor league rehab start on Wednesday at Triple-A Syracuse,

manager Buck Showalter afterward said deGrom was in good physical shape and was probably prepared to assist the major league squad.

Before the Subway Series started at Citi Field on Wednesday, Showalter said,

"The current plan is to pitch for us if everything develops well."

"But it might alter depending on what we learn on Thursday or the next day.

That is the current plan, but if that turns out to be the case, we'll see how we can fit that in.

A three-game series featuring the Mets is set to begin on Monday in Washington.
