Craigslist: Business Model & Income Source
Craigslist, formerly known as Craig's List, is a private company that operates over the Internet
to offer classified ads, community forums, and information services.
Users can participate in community conversations, buy and sell items in the classifieds, and search for employment and relationships.
A software programmer named Craig Newmark created Craig's list in 1995,
as a free email service listing upcoming events in the Californian San Francisco Bay region.
As more users started interacting with the website, its content was modified to allow better community involvement.
Since its establishment as Craigslist in 1999, the website has started to charge fees for classified job postings in large cities,
together with brokered apartment listings in New York City, are its only source of income.
