"It was very intense" to watch the new biopic about Elvis

Riley Keough, the granddaughter of the late rock'n'roll icon, revealed Friday

it was "intense" to watch the biopic of her grandmother, which premieres at the Cannes Film Festival next week.

She also attended the Cannes premiere of Australian director Baz Luhrmann's "Elvis" in addition to her directorial debut "War Pony."

Lisa Marie Presley and Priscilla Presley saw the film with her at the French Riviera festival.

The experience was emotional for her.

There were many family traumas and generational traumas involved. It was an intense experience."

Austin Butler plays Elvis' eponymous lead, played by Tom Hanks as Colonel Tom Parker.

Luhrmann handled the story of Keough's family with dignity, despite her discomfort at seeing them on screen.

I knew I wanted to be a movie maker when I saw 'Moulin Rouge!' at 12," Keough said.
