Netflix gambled heavily on The Gray Man, its newest blockbuster original film,

but it seems that the daring choice to invest $200 million in the action thriller paid off.

The high-profile film, which debuted last Friday (July 22), shot to the top of Netflix's list of most-watched movies.

The Gray Man has been at the top of the list for the past few days, and it is not expected that it will be displaced very soon.

The Gray Man's journey has not been without bumps; the movie has divided critics and audiences.

The Gray Man, a film directed by Anthony and Joe Russo of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers:

Endgame fame, is based on Mark Greaney's 2009 book of the same name.

In the action thriller, Ryan Gosling plays Sierra Six, the most accomplished agent in the CIA, whose true identity is kept a closely guarded secret.

When a seemingly routine mission in Bangkok goes wrong, Six discovers damning information about the organisation he works for and is soon forced to flee.
