TIKTOK ATTEMPTS TO ANSWER ELON MUSK’S BRAIN-TEASING JOB INTERVIEW QUESTION
TikTokers are stumped by Elon Musk's math riddle as he interviews candidates.
According to Ashlee Vance's 2015 biography Elon Musk
Tesla, SpaceX and the Quest for a Fantastic Future, the billionaire asked this question while interviewing at SpaceX.
TikTokers eagerly shared their best guesses.
"Exactly where you started on the surface of the Earth," a TikToker replied.
"I'm either at the North Pole, or the South Pole, or at the Equator, or in the Bermuda Triangle," someone said.
Popular Mechanics explains that the riddle has more than one answer.
The first answer is the North Pole. If you follow the steps in the logic problem, going south, west and north, you will create a triangular path that leads back to the North Pole. The second answer is the South Pole.
The south pole is at the center of a circle that has a circumference of 1 mile.
According to Popular Mechanics , if you were to start one mile north of this circle, you would travel one mile south, one mile west, and then one mile north to return to the starting point.
CNBC reports that, despite the tricky nature of the question, applicants weren't harshly judged on their answers. Rather, the aim was to examine how candidates approached problem-solving.
