Tim McGraw's complicated relationship with late famous father revealed
THe has found incredible success during his decades-long career as a loving husband and father.
However, the 1883 star - who has three daughters, Grace, 25, Maggie, 23, and Audrey, 20, with his wife Faith Hill
could have lived a very different life if he had not accidentally discovered who his father was when he was just 11 years old.
In addition to being raised by his stepfather, Horace Smith, Tim discovered that his dad was none other than former New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies baseball player, Tug McGraw.
After Tim's discovery, Tug and Tim met for the first time, but had no contact until Tim was 18.
During an appearance on Today in 2019, he said, "Most people don't realize I didn't grow up with Tug. I didn't know he was my father. I found my birth certificate when I was 11.".
As a kid, I was Smith because my stepfather was Horace Smith. I found my birth certificate in my mom's closet while digging through something. It referred to me as McGraw.
Tim said he never had any hard feelings towards Tug because learning his father was a star athlete gave him a goal to pursue.
Due to the circumstances I came from, he changed what he thought he could do with his life.
"When I found that out, you know, he's a successful professional baseball player, so I felt like I had that ability in my veins," he said.
"So then I found that same grit within me that he must have had in order to succeed at what he did." he said. "It changed what I thought I could accomplish in life.".
