Upgraded Yankees continue to pursue trades after the trade deadline.

No club can make themselves impervious to defeat during the playoffs because they are such a crapshoot.

A brief series has an element of randomness. Think about how the Astros finished the weekend with second-half records of 2-0 against the AL's top-ranked Yankees

And 6-1 against the big league's hottest team in the Mariners, yet they were swept in three games by the AL's bottom-dwelling A's.

However, each contender aims to strengthen their roster in order to defend against the lengthy regular season and to add as much quality as they can for the October tournament.

This year especially, I feel like it's true. Because the Yankees, Astros, Dodgers, Mets, Braves, and probably the Padres as well,

Especially if they add Juan Soto to their signing of Josh Hader, have built a premium league within the major leagues.

The super teams will compete until Tuesday at 6 p.m. to play "top this"; the Astros, for instance, strengthened their roster on Monday by obtaining Trey Mancini and Christian Vazquez.

Sure, the Mariners or Brewers could shock everyone and win the championship.
